A suitable procedure to choose antimicrobials as controlling agents in fermentations performed by bacteria BJM
Oliveira,Romulo C.; Gomez,José G.C.; Torres,Bayardo B.; Bueno Netto,Celso L.; Silva,Luiziana F. da.
This work evaluated the influence of nitrofurantoin, erythromycin and streptomycin at 50, 25 and 12,5% of the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) on maximum specific growth rate (µmax) and specific polymer accumulation rate (µPHB) of Alcaligenes eutrophus, considered resistant to those antimicrobials. Nitrofurantoin strongly affected µmax even at 50% MIC. Streptomycin moderately affected µmax only at 50%MIC. Nitrofurantoin showed the most harmful effect on µPHB when 50% MIC was applied and erythromycin was not harmful.

AKINPELU,DA; ADEGBOYE,MF; ADELOYE,OA; OKOH,AI.
The in vitro antibacterial activity of crude methanolic extract of the seeds of Garcinia kola was investigated. The extracts exhibited antibacterial activities with zones of inhibition ranging from 10 mm to 25 mm. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the diethyl ether fraction was between 0.313 and 5.0 mg/ml, while that of butanol fraction varied from 0.157 to 5.0 mg/ml. The butanol fraction killed about 77% of Bacillus anthracis and 79% of Escherichia coli cells within 120 min at a concentration of 5.0 mg/ml. Protein leakage from the B. anthracis and E. coli cells when exposed to the butanol and diethyl ether fractions was observed. We conclude that Garcinia kola seed extract has a broad spectrum antibacterial activity, with the butanol and diethyl...

Green Synthesis of AgNPs Stabilized with biowaste and their antimicrobial activities BJM
Jasuja,Nakuleshwar Dut; Gupta,Deepak Kumar; Reza,Mohtashim; Joshi,Suresh C..
In the present study, rapid reduction and stabilization of Ag+ ions with different NaOH molar concentration (0.5 mM, 1.0 mM and 1.5 mM) has been carried out in the aqueous solution of silver nitrate by the bio waste peel extract of P.granatum. Generally, chemical methods used for the synthesis of AgNPs are quite toxic, flammable and have adverse effect in medical application but green synthesis is a better option due to eco-friendliness, non-toxicity and safe for human. Stable AgNPs were synthesized by treating 90 mL aqueous solution of 2 mM AgNO3 with the 5 mL plant peels extract (0.4% w/v) at different NaOH concentration (5 mL). The synthesized AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM and SEM. Further, antimicrobial activities of AgNPs were...
